Spread the love

All things have a reason and you may not like it, and that includes me. So here are my 10 resolutions for 2026. They are what they are, based on my absolutely favorite expression from the singular, “It is what it is.”

  • If the brace works on my contracted leg, no matter how long it takes, my surgery, which is shorter but risky, won’t be thought about again.
  • I’ll stop getting coffee at Starbucks. It’s overpriced anyway. People go to Starbucks, in part, because it’s a status symbol and because they have a job.
  • I’ll refuse to stare at the monotonous dryer when it’s drying my clothes. I don’t know when it started, but it’s weird and a waste of time when I could be reading or writing.
  • I will go soon to a psychologist, at the start of 2026, for my fear of dying. I think about it all the time. My thoughts right now are I will live forever, but it’s simply not true.
  • If you had to sum up the past year in 3 to 5 words, what would it be? Mine would be creating another a book (prior books include Here’s to your Health: The Soberng Facts of Social Drinking and The Tales of a Stroke Patient), although I’m a third of the way in writing my autobiography. Beware, L and C.
  • What could happen to make next year the best year of your life? Mine would be running again and feel those endorphins kick in. But with a stroke, it’s dubious.
  • What are you most proud of this year? Brain Exchange, along with Sara Riggs, where all the people have some kind of brain injury, makes me proud to deal with disability.
  • When I go doctors, they PRESUME problems with my speech even though I had my stroke 16 years ago. So they turn to my caregiver every time for clarification. This coming year, I’ll say, “Please look directly at me, doctor, and I’ll say it other ways until you understand me.”
  • I’ll attempt to go to any store in my wheelchair, and if people stare, I’ll stare right in their faces at who are staring at me. Don’t start with me. I’ve been through too much already.
  • Last, I wish the world an uneventful time all year long, though I say this: not gonna happen.

In 2026, read and learn from my blog. That’s all I ask. Back at work the beginning of January 2026, marking my 16th year of writing my blog. Never boring, never tedious, always informative.

Happy holidays!
